Seeing flashes is a common occurrence. All flashes of light especially if they’re new should be evaluated immediately to determine if they are normal or a true medical emergency. Occasionally, a small section of the vitreous gel inside your eye may tug on the retina which can cause you to experience flashes of light. Other causes could be secondary to migraines called ocular migraines. Sometimes other eye conditions or problems inside the eye may cause floaters such as trauma, infections, inflammation, hemorrhages, retinal tears or retinal detachment to the eye. A thorough and immediate eye examination should help diagnose the problem.
